I just got a new computer, a new OS, and will be getting major new hardware next month. I don't want piracy to spoil a very very generous company either. Unfortunately, this particular approach has proven to have nasty and unexpected side effects. When a company invests a small fortune into the development of a program like ZBrush, it's completely understandable that they want to do their best to protect it. Instead, they get smarter and more creative. It's also true that those thieves aren't going away.

It's a sad thing that the world of software is filled with thieves.

This new method of distribution will undoubtedly have an effect on how they set up the registration in the next version, so you really shouldn't worry. In fact, until your post I believed that it was ONLY available online. But that system was also designed for an environment where the program isn't available on CD. They tried to make it as convenient for you as possible.

This is partly why they set it up so that you got your temp number when you first download the program and then have a full 30 days to get your permanent serial number. The ONLY time that I've had trouble was when daylight savings kicked in. Since those three things are pretty rare occurances, it is very unlikely that you will run into trouble again before the new version comes out. And it seems to require a REALLY major change, since adding a new video card so I could run a second monitor didn't affect me. People don't usually do those this very often, either. 3) You make a really major change to your system's components (like reinstalling your OS or adding a bunch of new hardware). 2) You move ZBrush to a different drive on your computer.

The new version will be out long before the next time we change the clocks. For most people, this happens twice a year - and we just went through that.

BUT there are three things that typically cause ZBrush's registration to crash: 1) You change your computer's clock. We're approaching the next 6 month point very soon. There was a space of about 6 months between the ZBrush version that I bought last April and when 1.23 came out. So it will be ready "when it's ready." To be honest, I doubt that it's going to be within a few days, though. Pixologic doesn't want to commit to a specific date because they want to make sure that the new version is as bug free as they can get it before making it available. The release date for the new version is still unknown. All that I know is that they have assured us that it will prevent this problem from happening in the future. I have no idea what their plans are for the new release.
